Series Rec + Review : Highgate Preparatory Academy Series by Rosa Lee
Solid Fast-Burn, High Steam Reverse Harem, Complete Trilogy with a prequel, 4 Stars
So, yeah. I just finished this trilogy and it was a doozy of a ride. I think it got a boost on BookTok, I just was randomly scrolling Amazon RH books and was intrigued. Plus, those covers are just so freaking beautiful. I love everything about them. This series is fast-burn, like within the first chapter fast. These characters don’t shy away from sex, all at once cathartic, binding, individual relationships and together bound up as one unit. There is a lot of sex. To the point where I will be honest, I was skimming quite a bit when they would start their sexual exploits. There was just so much of it, I should probably have started counting them, alas. If you like your romance clean, these books are not for you. There is group, kink, alpha dominance, BDSM, MM, Blood play, etc. There are also mentions of childhood sexual abuse. So just be warned.
Captured is the beginning of the tale, Lilly Darling is recently orphaned after walking into her apartment in England to find her mother murdered. She’s fresh from the trauma of the experience and has been sent to school at Highgate Preparatory Academy in the United States, where her newly found-out Uncle also attended school. Upon entering the school she finds herself cohabiting with four guys and from the very first moment, we meet these four individuals it is game-on.
“You are ours, Lilly Darling, and will be ours until we’re dragged kicking and screaming from this world into the flames. And when we’re all in Hell, we will take on Lucifer himself if he dares to keep us from you.”
First off, there is Loki, yes, he is named after the Loki of Norse Mythology and just as charming, mischievous, and dangerous as his namesake. Lilly meets him first and its immediate fire between the two. I’d say that he warms to her the quickest and it becomes more than just sex between them fast.
Then there is Jax, Lilly’s Viking Knight, big, beautiful, alpha, gruff. He’s yummy deliciousness and when he finally succumbs to his Lilly obsession, it’s forever.
Kai, beautiful, precious, tech genius, deceptively quiet, Kai. He’s Dominant when it comes to sex, and while the tension between him and Lilly flows beautifully, once he crosses the line into sex with her, Sir comes out to play and it is epic. I loved Kai, he takes care of Lilly beautifully, teaching her how to cook, and hiking with her, there is a sweetness to him that I loved, and his back story amongst the boys is the hardest to swallow.
And lastly, Lucifer himself, Asher, or Ash. This man is everything. Dominant to the extreme, and the leader of the pack. He begins by being the most stand-offish of the guys, but when he falls, he falls hard and ends up tied to Lilly in a way that the others can’t ever have with her, legally that is.
“She owns me, body and pitch-black soul.”
There is a mystery, suspense, relationship building, family secrets, family trauma, and reverse harem situation that is off the chain awesome. Lilly from the beginning to the end is a character that is easy to root for, she’s sassy, a bit bad-assy, capable of handling everything coming flying at her, and more than able to handle being in a relationship with four different beautiful men.
Rosa Lee is a hell of a writer, she kept me entrenched in the series, I didn’t pause to read anything else until I reached the end as I just needed to know what would happen next. The cliffy’s for books one and two were doozy doo, and I loved book three. There are epic answers, and conclusions to the storyline that left me gobsmacked. AND I am soooooo hopeful that with the introduction of certain characters that Lee will continue to tell stories in this world, even though Lilly and her Knights have reached the end of their trilogy.
If Reverse Harem is your deal and you like your books to be high on smut level with fast burn to boot, then look no further. Prepare for a genuinely good storyline that will hook you and keep you until the very end. And as I said before, be prepared for sex, a lot of sex and kinks galore. Also, these boys, don’t mess around, they’ve been trained to do some terrible things, so there are scenes of torture, murder, blood, and bollocks. Check the trigger warnings/content warnings should you need to be sure before diving in.
