Mini Review: The Mad House by Liza James
First off, this story and its beautiful macabre cover are fire. . .FIRE! 5 mad bloody stars + a 2022 favorite
“That’s the problem, I think. The fact that I find freedom in my own madness.”
Liza James is a vicious storyteller and she pulls no punches through every single visceral moment of The Mad House. I loved this book, and read it within a day, I just could not stop. The ending is vicious just like its author and rips out a chunk of your bookish soul. To try to tell you much beyond the synopsis would be a disservice, just go read this book. It’s dark, it’s twisted, it’s loaded with blood and angst and forbidden fruit that tastes oh, so good.
Liza James has done it again, smashed it out of the park, exceeding all of my expectations. This book has the feels of Vibe, another book by the Queen herself. If dark books that deal with religious trauma, taboo subject matter, murder, etc are not your niche, then please step away. For everyone else, this is what dark romance dreams are made of. I loved it. Brilliant, beautiful, tragic, I’ll be tasting metallic for some time.
P.S. Always check the author’s content warnings/trigger warnings, dark romance is not for everyone. And while I absolutely adore it, and recommend it, I also want to acknowledge and encourage others to please do their own research before dipping their toe into the dark and merciless depths. xo
